How to Consciously Leave Your Lazy Era

Sticking to your goals can be like trying to nail jelly to a wall—frustrating and seemingly impossible.

It can be quite frustrating when you have your goals and struggle to stay consistent with them.

You know quite well that it is not a case of being goalless or aimless; it is just about committing to said goals.

Most of the time, it is because of the lack of a system in place that this is difficult and seemingly impossible.

This is what makes it feel like those dreams are elusive and might not be actionable.

Whether you’re aiming to get fit, save money, or learn a new skill, consistency is key.

This is the major key to all of this, alongside other things I will discuss in this blog post.

Here are nine simple ways to stay consistent with your goals.

9 Ways to Stay Consistent with Your Goals

1. Define and Understand the Why, What, and How of Your Goal

Ways to Stay Consistent with your Goals

Before diving headfirst into any goal, it’s crucial to understand its purpose.

Why do you want to achieve this goal?

What exactly does it entail?

And how do you plan to get there?

When you define the why, what, and how, you create a roadmap that keeps you focused and motivated.

For example, if your goal is to run a marathon, your why might be to improve your overall health and fitness.

Your what would be the specific steps needed to train for a marathon, such as following a training plan and incorporating strength workouts.

And your how would involve setting weekly or monthly milestones to track your progress.

Have you clearly defined the why, what, and how of your goal?

2. Create a Routine

Routines are the most important ingredient for consistency.

They turn desired actions into habits by embedding them into your daily schedule.

Set specific times for your workouts, meal prepping, and other activities related to your goal.

You can also use tools like a planner or calendar to organize your routine and prioritize your tasks.

If you want to read more, set aside 20 minutes every morning for your book.

If you want to exercise, make it a non-negotiable part of your daily routine.

You reduce the mental effort needed to get started each day when you make these activities habitual.

3. Track Your Progress

Ways to Stay Consistent with your Goals

Monitoring your progress can be incredibly motivating.

It’s like giving yourself a little high-five every time you make progress.

Plus, it helps you identify patterns and adjust your approach as needed.

For instance, if you’re trying to save money, tracking your spending can highlight areas where you can cut back.

Keeping track of your progress is an essential part of achieving any goal.

It not only helps you stay motivated, but it also allows you to see how far you’ve come and identify areas for improvement.

One way to track your progress is to keep a journal.

This can be a physical diary or an online journal, whichever works best for you.

Write down your daily accomplishments and setbacks, along with any thoughts or reflections on your progress.

This will serve as a record of your journey and also allow you to reflect on your growth over time.

Another option is to use an app specifically designed for tracking goals.

Many apps are available that allow you to set goals, track progress, and even connect with others who have similar goals.

These apps often have features such as reminders, progress charts, and motivational quotes to keep you on track.

4. Find an Accountability Partner

We all need a little nudge sometimes.

An accountability partner can provide support, encouragement, and a friendly kick in the pants when needed.

Share your goals with someone who will check in regularly and hold you accountable.

This could be a friend, family member, or even a colleague.

The idea is to have someone who is genuinely interested in your progress and can help you stay on track.

5. Break It Down

Large goals can be overwhelming, the scarier it seems, the less motivated you may become.

So, break them into smaller, manageable tasks.

Instead of focusing on writing a whole book, aim to write one page a day.

Smaller tasks are easier to accomplish and provide a sense of accomplishment that keeps you motivated.

When you break down your goals and achieve them one by one, you build momentum that can carry you through to the larger goal.

6. Stay Flexible

Life happens, and sometimes plans go awry.

When it does, don’t fret or fold, instead, be water.

Let me explain. You know how water sits calmly in a cup, flows slowly in a stream and faster in a flood, and blends in all its forms?

So, like water, learn to be flexible and adaptable.

Flexibility is crucial.

If you miss a day at the gym or spend more than you planned, don’t give up.

Adjust your plan and keep going.

Remember, progress, not perfection, is the goal.

Being able to adapt to changing circumstances without losing sight of your goal is a key aspect of staying consistent.

How will you adjust your plan when unexpected obstacles arise?

7. Visualize Your Success

Take a moment each day to visualize yourself achieving your goal.

Imagine how it feels, what it looks like, and how it impacts your life.

Visualization can boost your motivation and keep your focus sharp.

Athletes often use this technique to enhance performance, and it can work just as well for you, whether your goal is to finish a project or start a new hobby.

If you can dream it, you definitely can achieve it.

Can you picture yourself achieving your goal? How does it feel?

8. Find a Mentor

Having a mentor will make a huge difference in staying consistent with your goals.

A mentor can provide guidance, advice, and support based on their own experiences.

They can help you navigate challenges, offer encouragement, and hold you accountable.

Whether it’s a professional mentor or someone who has achieved what you’re striving for, their insights can be invaluable.

9. Reward Yourself

Rewarding yourself is a very powerful motivator.

Celebrate your successes, no matter how small.

Treat yourself to something enjoyable when you hit a milestone.

It could be a nice meal, a relaxing day off, or a new gadget.

Rewards make the journey more enjoyable and reinforce positive behavior.

Knowing that there’s a reward at the end of your hard work can help you stay motivated.

What reward will you give yourself for reaching your next milestone?

In The End

Staying consistent with your goals isn’t always easy, but it’s certainly worth it.

Consistency is not about being perfect; it’s about making progress each day and not giving up. Embrace the journey, celebrate your milestones, and learn from your setbacks.

Every step you take, no matter how small, brings you closer to your goal.
